MySecretBillionare
All lovey lovey, no major conflicts, follows the story, up to all is lost, but not really, the main character is a billionaire whose dad asked him to live without money for 30 days ( teaches him compassion and allows him to find love, but he seems to be well balanced to start with) and the real estate lady who riots her job and puts all her savings (she has family to fall back onto) into a new business and then happily follows him to California sort of putting her business at risk. Everything sweet fairy tale style, feels like a billionaire funded a story that is prince and the pauper/cinderella - feel good story, but without any major obstacles. Zone out and watch while doing laundry sale of film. You know what is going to happen all the time so if anything is missed no-one cares.
AnyoneButYou
The romance the two people everyone knows will be together refuse to be together, while attending a vacation with a family for her sister's wedding, and his friend's.
Only convenient people were included in the group and noone other than this that need to be there.
DivorceWhileBlack
Starts with a funeral where baptist priest talks about hell and how the boy who died ( shot while robbing or something) will end in hell. His daughter is married to the boys brother, and they have a fallout about her misunderstanding him, only to come to her perspective and the rest of the story is about her trying to be a good girl and he wanted the divorce she worries about being old, but ultimately we learn she has been abused and lived with the guy because that is what she believed in.
Dad gives her gun and ultimately she shoots her (by then) ex-husband.
GodzilaVsKong
The special effects bonanza with terrible plot, the love of mo and letting go and the girl and the tribe who don't speak is the only redeeming quality, beyond the action stuff that we mostly hav seen before, not much new in here as far as I can tell, cool freezing fur on Kong and fight sequence during no gravity moment, but it all feels rather staged and events happen conveniently rather than they make sense, people running away while Godzilla of Kong do stuff, and the cars standing still on the bridge as it is destroyed, might be better off with fewer cars less uniformly spaced but standing still along the bridge.
MaxinesBabyTylerPerry
Documentary about his abuse as kid, his father not being his father the rain marks the change,
Big mama ( Madea) he played on stag and in movies
To watch:
Diary of a mad black woman,
House of Payne
Sustas
Pitch him my TV show?
ShortLongTrip
Teenager lives with her dad in a van, we are nicely in her perspective, she hates the lifestyle and dreams about living in the house, until her dad dies, then she gets all the opportunities to live differently, but learns the cost of those and ultimately maybe inherits or starts working with a auto mechanic in the shop. everyday people portrayed with dreams and problems, and the abuser dad of the native girl doesn't get even a glimpse, while we only see the girl.
Kudos to the story, writing and cinematography/directing.
ThisChangesEverything
Documentary from 2018 about how not much changed for women filmmakers, and how it was a female world champion, until in became a big business.
(Talked to Jakub he mentioned inns and breweries, used to be run by women until it became a good business.
Trois
Rob Hardy's first movie 2004, he directed episode of TV here and there usually one or two. Probably specific? Doing workshop on storyboarding and shotlisting in Atlanta in August 7th 2024, then visit to Taylor Perry studios.
Air
Great fun story about Michael Jordan and Nike Shoe, his mom is important figure but it barely passes Bechtel test, maybe they talk with one of the board members about the shoe, but I am not sure it is discussion between the two women.
AmericanFiction
Won an Oscar about a writer who is very particular and uses cliches to submit a novel that becomes the biggest hit.
BookClub
The scene of throwing ashes out of a helicopter
Bottoms
A lesbian and a girl that doesn't fit make a girls fight club, it is quite funny comedy, good female characters, I am not into LQBTQ films, but ok for this.
Dune2
Trying to put my finger of the strongly religious undertones of this film, it can be taken in many directions, his mom becomes a leader of the sisters sect who have been building the leader to rule them and he is to be one, but he feels that it will create more cruel world and tries to refuse it, but the world is already at war, the depiction of the draw and fight for power is distressing, as is the tone; overly serious and dramatic, but probably works for the success of this film series with the audiences.
Expats
Nikole Kidman, living in Hong-kong looses child and meets a person wh caused it or something, it slowly exposes what happened - feels to slow and characters do weird emotional transitions ( so far saw 2 episodes or so. Ot's pretty and during the talk at the Dunn theater in LA the production designers talked about how they had to move the production from hongKong to LA and redesign everything again.
Fallout
Based on a computer game. Starts interestingly in a Vault with harvest scene and then a marriage ceremony, during which raiders marry their guy to one of the girls - sh becomes killer in her wedding dress - seems like interesting twist and good female character ( from macho male perspective) watching the show and not knowing what is going on and not being attached to the game, it feels disconnected and random as we are trying to introduce all the characters, but I was a bit lost as to who is who, and what it is they are trying to save.
The opening scene with the nuclear explosion and the cowboy with his daughter feel like it should be more relevant to the story, but I am not sure if it is. Maybe he is the necromancer? But I don't understand why he is revived, after we start with the girl first. I didn't get past first couple episodes, so can't judge the plot but it is just violent bloody murder and I am not sure why I should be watching it. Not really invested. Maybe they tried to make her go find her father, but they lost me at her character transition.
GodzillaMinusOne
Won academy special effects, I watched it and posted about how awesome they were, Great use of singular effect 3 times with emotionally different impact each time, great human story about kamikaze and value of human life and abuse from the powers that be, and the shaming of weaknesses, when a person is not willing to be "great" and sacrifice their ow life for "bigger cause" fighting about common mentality - that affects even the person themselves.
Griselda_TV
Interesting story of a woman who ran drug smuggling operations and became biggest drug lord - feels like a female empowerment story as she faced judgment from her husband, been trafficked by him for money, and was taken as incapable, in a way that helped her do things and not draw suspicion. The episode 1 opens with her running home being stabbed or wounded and we get to revisit the moments of that day through out that episode and the next.
She leaves for Miami and smuggles cocaine in her son's suitcase because he is 11.
She stands up for herself, beats the guy who stole her code and hirs a bodyguard.
Supposedly we will see huge transition later, I felt her mouth was bit weird at the beginning - was that the VFX? Need Netflix to watch more.
IFeelPretty
Amy Schumer is fun here, sh bangs her head and has misconception about her looks, the writing is making working hard to keep the illusion feeling real, beautiful moment is when she is ringing the doorbell and her boyfriends has a beautiful loving smile, before he walks outside.
Sadly we need to knock ourselves unconscious to realize we are awesome, the only bit that was mildly unbelievable was when she gave the final presentation. Still it is lovely piece about self perception.
IamVirgo
A tall guy with little people, settings interesting, plot is confusing, and the production very artistic. The production designers at Dunn theater talked about how they created muiiniatures for each set so they had real and the small for him to look huge an they used no CGI ?
LifeofHenriettaLacks
Didn't have time to watch the whole film, seems like a decent adaptation of the ebook I read a while back.
Loki
First episode is about messed up timeline and fun, second season is a Groundhog Day story with Loki becoming the ruler and understanding what ruling means in a very interesting way.
MadameWeb
Mom found a spider to save her daughter from degenerative disease and legend of people ...
Watched it on the plain to from LA to SLC June 13th
MeanGirls
Very simplistic musical with a girl falling in with "Plastics" originally befriending her two gay friends after entering middle school after being homeschooled by mom while working in nature in Kenya.
Musical structure and dance scenes were well done - ideas for the velvet Thread.
Note from Maggie: " unlike in College, Middle and high school are places where your worth comes not from who you are."
Love Tina fey's intervention scene in the gym - raise whand who talks shit behind someone's back. And apologies.
And the queen bee being run over by buss plus "these drugs make me like everyone"
MraMrsSmith
Love the energy between the two characters, assassins for hire mate he'd at the agency, she doesn't want relationship with. Him he does they pretend they are family. Fun and hilarious and good characters.
NobodyWalksinLA
A guy is on suicide watch and his friend takes him on a journey through LA and his life memories, to have him stay. A postractd from LA and idea for my hiking Mountain film.
NorthernExposure
Recently graduated physician who is sent to practice in Anchorage, Alaska, for several years to repay the state of Alaska for underwriting his medical education. Much to his chagrin, he is assigned to the much smaller and remote town of Cicely, which is in need of a general practitioner. Originally the show focused on Fleischman's fish-out-of-water experiences in rural Alaska but as it progressed, it became more of an ensemble show, focusing on various other Cicely residents.

WHard to understand his English, atched/skimmed on plane to LA - didn't have time to watch the whole film, but skipped the third act to jump to finale, and skimmed through dfor the long shots of how he rose to fame and tried to make. Later met with Jamaican and she mentioned this is British movie with non Jamaican actor and so she didn't see it yet. Boycoted it.
American biographical drama musical film based on the life of reggae singer and songwriter Bob Marley, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, from his rise to fame in the mid-1970s up until his death in 1981. popularize reggae music and the Rastafari movement around the world.
In 1976, amidst armed political conflict that is affecting daily life in Jamaica, Bob Marley announces he will perform at a concert, Smile Jamaica, promoting peace amongst the warring factions.
Saltburn
At first watch it felt interesting, about how unsettling the whole film is, it's hard to know who to root for and by the time the final reveal is dealt it feels like we saw it coming. Might be because Jakub sort of spoiled it for me or maybe because I didn't like anyone, and the guy was just being clearly manipulative and lying. And it started in the middle and then jumped a bit randomly, somehow the opening didn't quite fit. I feel that it was the monologue that sort of ruined the film's emotional impact of the twist, or his motivation, it's hard to put my finger on it. Interesting scene with sex during the period though.
Sicario
When I complained that Taylor Sheridan doesn't write good female characters I was told that he did here, but it's still just a man's story. She is tricked and left for weaker not able to kill him at the end. So it's still just glorifies angry and violent men.
TheElectricalLifeOfLouisWain
A Cumberbatch plays a husband of a woman who is dying from cancer and he decides to paint cats, there is a section after she dies when he becomes popular only to be returned back that it was only in hs dreams or temporary, because he didn't copyrighted the pictures, then by great benefactor moves into house with his needy family and then to sanatorium -
Reconnects with his wife in the serene nature.
Don't quite get what it is about other than dedication and grief and capitalism.
TheHoldovers
Interesting story, surprisingly awarded lot's of nominations, the acting was interesting, and the end sort of inevitable. It was curious story showing how lying may be ok for some things? And the looser teacher being actually amazing dude, feels like ego trip for people who feel they failed in life.
TheIdeaOfYou
40+ mom of teenagers meets a boy band singer and they fall in love, interesting take on how their relationship evolves and is scrutinized by fans and affects her daughter who is a fan.
I enjoyed the film. "They don't like to see a happy older woman"
ThePortableDoor
The door opener guy and story of coincidences and love, mind control with interesting VFX.
The combination of CGI and practicals.
If you had portable doors that could take you places where would you go? They use it for traveling around the world.
And the bank of the dead, who owns the soul, signed to the company.
Upgraded
Pretty fun Cinderella story about art gallery intern. Classic work hard and if you are lucky, people will notice you and the evil sisters. Godmother is the travel agent who upgrades her, and she lands next to rich Prince Charming, and lies her way through to the relationship with him, and becomes rich gallery owner, thanks to him, she is portrayed as driven and hard working, going around rules and using everything around her even if she has to lie her way through. It's kind of sad and supports status quo shit that is going on, but is a mindless zone out/ girls look pretty and your Prince Charming and your hard work will get you out of your shithole - I don't need to watch any more of these but I am sure ther his a lot of audiences out there - very male gaze trying to portray strong woman.
WhereDidYouGoBernadette
Suggested by Greenlight Women to watch (still TBD)
I just watched he'd trailer it's about a women obsessed with her child and being mean girl - sounds curious, but I don't like trailer and am not sure why I should watch a movie like this?
Again it's just a story about a historical woman - feels very old school. Just like I am not fan of mean girls - could never fit into that category and never had any intention to be part of that so it's probably not necessary a movie genre that thrills me to watch it. It feels like it plays into stereotypes of female protrayal.
Xanadu
Gene kelly's last film, skateboarding musical, with interesting special effects and underground jazz club, pretty spunky and I could use it to structure my Velvet thread on this 1980's story. Fits time period and I can use some screenshots for world creation.
fatherStu
Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg coming to Jesus story. The mom is sort of inconsequential as are all the women, they are there only to look pretty and to aid guys on their journey.
tedK
Incredibly boring, news report style story of tedK, I only skimmed it as it was really dragging and I didn't hav patience to watch the long shots and filler B-roll that wasn't that interesting. The final arrest was also weird and sudden, but I might have missed something. Should be a lot shorter film, as is it is just news report on events. The actor is sort of ok, but I didn't feel much for him. Neither his need to do that, was that intentional as not to make people do similar things?
